In Ardrossan

Our evenings
The view
New bottom paint
Nico working on the bilge pump
Moving the boat
Our newly painted rudder
The entrance to the harbor
The traffic light
The entrance to the marina
Far and Away being brought to the slipway

Far and Away is now in the water! The past few days have been busy ones - putting the sails back on, painting the bottom, tuning the rig, getting food and seriously cleaning the boat. We lived aboard her in the boatyard without water, climbing a ladder up and down to go to the marina restrooms. Luckily we had heat and lights.

The harbor is protected by huge breakwaters and walls. The entrance is so narrow that there is a traffic light to warn boaters not to enter or exit the same time as the ferry to Arran. This area was once a bustling boatbuilding operation in the 1920’s but that is long gone. The town is now very quiet.

Since I can’t connect to the internet I am experimenting with writing this on my phone. Adding pictures is a challenge. Looks like they uploaded in a different order than I picked.

About to Set Off

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Nico and I will be heading off for another adventure on Far and Away. This time it will be to Scotland. The boat has been spending the winter "on the hard" in a boatyard in Ardrossan, Scotland on the Firth of Clyde - a short train trip from Glasgow. We will give her a coat of bottom paint, ready her for the season, and then she is scheduled to be put in the water on Monday.
